HF&D Launches New Web Site To Better Inform Railroaders Of Their Rights

J. Dillon Hoey, Partner
Hoey, Farina & Downes

hoey@felahfd.com

Hoey, Farina & Downes has launched a new Web site to bring to railroaders and their families the latest news and information on railroad worker safety and accident issues.

By offering more interactive features and timely updates, the updated site will allow us to better fulfill our mission to provide railroaders and their families the important and key information they need to stay up-to-date with issues relating to work injuries and the arbitration process.

In addition to updated information about the HF&D team, new features of the site include HF&D's weekly newsletter - STRAIGHT TRACK, updated resource and FELA-related links pages, and an online registry for HF&D's two free seminars - the Family Members Seminar and the Arbitration Advocacy Skills Seminar.

Future HF&D seminar offerings will include the Net-Track Seminar, which will offer officers instruction on how to set up a Web site for their local, lodge or division. HF&D_s new Webmaster Bill McMahon will lead Net-Track events that will demonstrate effective ways to use the Internet to keep members better informed of issues that effect them. Bill comes to HF&D after working in the Internet industry as Web designer and editor for the past four years. Look for more information on The Net-Track Seminar in upcoming editions of STRAIGHT TRACK.

Overall, the new site will provide important information for railroad workers in eight specific areas:

  • STRAIGHT TRACK NEWSLETTER -- HF&D has launched a new free weekly email newsletter to better inform railroaders of the latest news and issues affecting their life on the rails. On the newsletter page, visitors can subscribe and unsubscribe to STRAIGHT TRACK, help write future editions by using the online submission form, and read past editions. Look for future STRAIGHT TRACK editions to cover the following areas: a) How to File an Accident Report, b) Who Pays Your Medical Costs and c) Negotiating Your Case with the Claim Agent.

  • SEMINARS -- HF&D sponsors two seminars, at no cost to you or your local, lodge, or division, to inform railroaders and their families about the issues related to work injuries and the arbitration process. The purpose of the Arbitration Advocacy Skills Seminar is to help you understand the arbitration process, including the formal investigation, and utilize it to your advantage. The purpose of the Family Members Seminar is to help your loved ones understand what must be done if you have been seriously injured or killed at work. Look for future HF&D sponsored seminars to offer instruction on how your local, lodge, or division can get online by setting up its own Web site to better inform railroaders of local issues that affect them.

  • UNION MEETINGS -- For each of the union meetings listed on our web-site, there will be a HF&D representative speaking and available to answer your questions. If you do not see a listing for your local, lodge or division, please contact us or have your union representative contact us at (888) 425-1212 or at info@felahfd.com.

  • THE FACTS -- The HF&D team is dedicated to informing railroader workers of their rights under the Federal Employers' Liability Act (FELA). THE FACTS section outlines the way HF&D works to help injured railroaders and their families.

  • FELA LINKS - A resource page with numerous links to FELA related organizations on the World Wide Web. If you do not see a link to the web-site for your local, lodge or division, please contact us or have your union representative contact us at (888) 425-1212 or at info@felahfd.com.

  • RECENT RESULTS -- Demonstrates the fact that negligence must be proven against the railroad in order for the railroader to recover financially after suffering an injury at work. Also, it shows the jury verdicts and settlements the HF&D team has obtained for their railroad clients. (NOTE: The results are not to be construed as a guarantee or warranty of any type.)

  • THE TEAM -- Complete and updated biographies of the HF&D team. We have more than 125 years of combined experience practicing FELA law and representing railroaders and their families.

  • DESIGNATED LEGAL COUNSEL-- HF&D is Designated Legal Counsel for the following unions: UTU- United Transportation Union; BLE - Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers; ATDD - American Train Dispatchers Department; BMWE - Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employes; B of RS - Brotherhood of Railroad Signalmen; IBEW - International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers; TCU - Transportation Communications Union.
